Tea Vui Huang이라는 개발자가 휴대폰에서 Podcast를 MMS를 통해서 들을 수 있도록 AMR codec으로 변환할 수 있는 utility를 제공한다. (프로젝트명 : Podcast-to-AMR)
기능은 Podcast MP3파일을 AMR 파일로 10분 용량으로 자동으로 잘라주어, MP3기능이 없는 휴대폰에서도 MMS의 AMR 첨부를 통해 들을 수 있게 해주는 utility로. AMR이 MP3보다 3-6배 정도 더 작다고 한다. (물론 음질이 저하되겠지만.) Output AMR narrow-band와 wide-band를 둘자 지원한다. 개발자 싸이트를 보니 22M mp3가 narrow-band시약4M, wide-band시약 7M로 압축이 된다.
Converter codec으로는 Nokia에서 제공하는 Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0 SDK를 사용한듯.. Legacy 단말에서의 Podcast 활성화를 통한 MMS traffic 증가의 biz-model로는 최적일것 같다.
우리나라도 아직까진 Mobile 에서의 JUNE/FIMM같은 Broadcasting/AOD외의 Podcasting 서비스가 없고, Podcasting 열풍이 아직 도래되진 않았지만 세계적 추세로 볼때 비슷한 컨셉은 향후 도입될듯 하다.
